Here is my summary of The Faces of John Sheridan

When Captain John Sheridan arrives on the station, he is a cheerful, happy guy. A military man, a simple man. Deceptively so!

In fact he is already working with an underground network of Earth Force personnel who are worried about Clarke and events on Earth.

He seems affable but only opens up to a very few people - old friends like General Hague and Ivanova, and, gradually, Ambassador Delenn.

While not a scholarly or philosophical man as Commander Sinclair was, he still has a yearning for truth, a joy and wonder of all things different, and the natural instinct for doing the RIGHT thing.

In Season 3 he has been enlisted in the Army of Light by Delenn, he has been led through Kosh's 'lessons,' and has broken away from Earth.

He is falling in love with Delenn while still unable to let go of his grief for his dead wife Anna. He has begun to understand his role in the coming darkness, and begins a hero's journey which will test and transform him.

He confronts the Vorlons, forcing them to action, but loses Kosh. He slips in time and sees his future.

When Anna shows up, he knows she is not the Anna he knew, and knows that it's a trap, but he goes to Z'ha'dum in hopes of preventing the devastation to come.

In the mythic hero's journey, the leap into the chasm at Z'ha'dum is the final test. He confronts the essential questions and his place in the universe. He is ready to return and "be what his friends need him to be." He is ready to be 'dangerous.'
Season 4! Gone is the cheerful, restless, curious John. Gone are the soft cheeks, the soft hair. Gone is the modesty in his leadership.
Instead we have a still and silent John; a gray and lean John. He understands what it will take to confront the Old Ones, to inspire and unite and LEAD so many species of disparate agendas, and even conduct a war against his own people. He knows what sacrifice means, and he knows what LIVING means.
He is captured, and tortured, and drugged, but they cannot reach his essential SELF.

Now in Season 5 John Sheridan is President of the Interstellar Alliance. He and Delenn have finally married. He will have to give up the concerns of running the Babylon station and instead lead the political life, keeping the fragile alliance together, and dealing with the coming telepath war.

"I don't get to wear that nifty uniform anymore. But I do have nice suits! It's just that he has more responsibility now, and that weighs heavier on his shoulders. But he also has his wife, who is the co-president or the First Lady of the IA. So I think we have much more interaction now between the two of us."
