FROM THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER BABYLON 5 SALUTE 4/7-13/98

(thanks DianeKDe!)

 The text says:

Former captain of "Babylon 5" who led the fight during the Shadow Wars. Now he's traded the military for politics and is Earth Alliance President John Sheridan.

On his expectations for "Babylon 5": I came on in the second season and thought I'd probably come on and kill it. And lo and hehold, it went into a third season. Then at the end of the third season, the more I got to understand the concept of what Joe [Straczynski] was trying to do, the more it became my mission as an actor to complete this story, come hell or high water. It would be like not finishing a book after the third chapter. You'd always be wondering how is this thing going to end.

On playing the character: They guy is not perfect. He has flaws and overcomes them. He had to go through this whole heroic journey of actually confronting his own death, dying, and being reborn again, which is something most mythic archetypes have to go through. Then he comes out the other side being this leader and now a husband and a much more mature man. He came from this sort of brash, swaggering young cowboy-type to a much more reserved, contemplative, mature man who is now a politician.

On his involvement with NASA:
I'm being elected to the Board of Governors to the National Space Society, a civilian organization that helps keep funding and awareness of our space program alive. I remember the Apollo program very vividly, and used to get up to watch all the launches on television.
